Sharon and his pet government
The train of events that has happened in Israel in the last few days have been so un-Democratic and so typical Sharon it’s almost funny. What do you say we run through them, shall we?
This past Friday, 2 days before the cabinet was to vote for Sharon’s “revised” disengagement plan Sharon fired two of his appointed ministers. Minister of Transportation Avigdor Lieberman, and Minister of Tourism Benny Elon, both of the right wing National Union party. These are 2 great men that Sharon handpicked because he new that they would be strong leaders. Sharon fired his two ministers not because they couldn’t handle their posts or because they did a bad job, he fired them because they disagreed with his disengagement plan and he didn’t have a majority for the Sunday vote.
SO I hope you boys and girls found the lesson here: If one day you become a successful politician and are trying to push your personal agenda on your people but don’t have a majority on your side for the vote, just fire enough of the opposition until you have your majority.
So Sunday the cabinet voted and amazingly enough the disengagement plan passed. WOW! Didn’t see that coming’.
Tuesday, NRP leader Housing Minister Effie Eitam along with NRP Deputy Minister Rabbi Yitzchak Levy submitted their resignations to Sharon.
The All-Star coalition is crumbling. It looks like Sharon might get his wish for a coalition government with Labor instead of with the right wing parties.
